Why are we Breslover?

The Breslov Hasidic group loves to sing, dance, laugh, live with joy and happiness, share with children, spend time in the garden talking with Hashem. Why? Because the Joy of the Lord is our strength! (Nehemiah 8:10). Laughter is contagious. It does good, like medicine (Prov. 17:22a). It brings comfort, stability, health, peace, hope, love, happiness...

The Talmud teaches the death of a Tzadik brings about atonement (Mo-ed Katan, 28a). Who was/is the greatest Tzadik of all time? The Moshiach (Messiah/Christ), of course! We are not talking about salvation/atonement, the free gift that is imputed by faith for all time. Instead, we are talking about the lifestyle we choose to embrace. Our choice is to find joy and happiness in life. We seek G-d's provision and celebrate His presence at every opportunity, everywhere.

So, my aunt use to say to every negative situation, "How gracious of Hashem to allow this or that to happen so that you can ..." For example, you get run over by a car and you break your leg. She would say, "How gracious of Hashem to give you the time to slow down and enjoy more of life!" This preference for the positive outlook, the silver lining, the optimism is really a choice for joy in a world buried in gloom. By choosing joy we allow the Lord to fill us with strength for the day/season.

Join us this season/"new year" in committing to choose Joy and happiness as your new emotional compass for the next stage of life. You will love what the Lord shows you!

Baruch Hashem (Blessed be the Name)!
