Do not swear by Rambam

Do not swear by Rambam, you may be disappointed. (Note: Maimonides' 13 Principles of the Jewish Faith is used by some to argue against Jesus being the Messiah). Rambam is historically constrained. (Spoiler: I believe the Rambam is correct but that some of his interpreters were/are wrong).

Instead believe the brutal facts: 1) Education is not the enemy of faith, prejudice is. 2) Jews have always delighted in education. 3) Being educated in the teachings of a religious leader doesn't mean you follow that leader. 4) If you claim to be Jewish, you must follow the G-d of Israel. 5) You cannot claim spiritual formation/maturity if all you do is think about belief without action or just practice religion without faith or belief. 6) There has been prejudice against Jesus because of the horrible behavior of some of his followers. This is the historical reality that the Rambam was living in. But, the world is changing. 7) Since Vatican II, bridges have and are being built between Jews and Christians. And, 8) For the world to grow, we must fight against racism, bigotry, prejudice, etc. Thus, those who continue to hate Jesus without knowing his teachings are either uneducated or prejudiced and thus are part of the problem and not the solution.

We as a larger Jewish community must grow beyond our fears and embrace what HaShem is doing in the world today.
